Book Description

In high school, the last thing you want is for people to think you talk to ghosts.

When Sparrow begins tenth grade at a huge new school full of strangers, she thinks her dreams of anonymity and a fresh start are finally coming true. No more following in her six older sisters footsteps. No more going to class with kids whove seen her grandma doing jujitsu in the front yard next to the headstones of her four dead husbands. And no more worrying about keeping her deep, dark secret hidden.

Sparrow makes a new best friend and has her eye on an irritatingly appealing guy in her history class. She feels like shes well on her way to a normal life. But its another boy--a dead one--who wants Sparrows attention, and he wont let her be till shes helped him Move On.

You see, Sparrow Delaneys secret is that shes a psychic. And theres one very persistent ghost who wont let her forget it.

Despite a few awful characters (more on that below), I found this book to be delightful. I'm sure there are better words to describe it, but it's the only one I can come up with at the moment.

I felt that Grandma Bee was more annoying than charming, the twin sisters (Linnet and Lark) were weak Fred and George Weasley ripoffs, and Fiona-the BFF-was simply useless.

Sparrow's family is full of psychics, and they all expect the Sparrow to be the same, if not more, and is just slow to develop her abilities. But Sparrow's been hiding her abilities since she was 5 years old; she wants to be normal. But when a stubborn ghost comes asking for help, she has to choose between helping him and a certain cute boy in school, and revealing her talents to everyone, or keep her secret hidden.

When I grabbed this from the shelf, I was a little iffy on whether I would enjoy it or not. I was pleasantly surprised. The book kept a steady pace throughout, but it still kind of felt like nothing really happened, for it's size at least. I wanted more depth to the characters, minor and major. Her sisters and family were all explained through Sparrow's first person, but it was more like "This is how they are, that's just the way it is" instead of 'this is why it is'.

Again, it felt like for all the stuff going on, nothing really happened in the book. It could have been a short story, but there a lot the main character has to go through that makes it unable to be a short story.

Despite that, I really enjoyed the book from the very start.
